Fanvil Phones Defaulting to Video Answer/Dial Mode

Updated at July 20th, 2026

Overview

Fanvil handsets that support video calling ship from the factory with the Default Answer Mode and Default Dial Mode set to Video rather than Audio. When one of these phones registers to the UnitedCloud SIP cluster, calls will attempt to negotiate video by default, which is not the expected behaviour for standard voice deployments.

This article explains why this happens and how to correct it, for both phones managed through UnitedCloud's provisioning server and those that are not.

Affected Models

The following Fanvil models are video-capable and are affected by this default behaviour:

Model Series Specific Model Numbers Video Screen Details

Fanvil V66 / V66 Pro

Fanvil V65

Adjustable 7-inch floating color screen

Adjustable 4.3-inch color display

7-inch full-color HD touchscreen

Issue

On video-capable Fanvil phones, two settings under Phone SettingsFeaturesBasic Settings control this behaviour:

  • Default Ans Mode: controls whether an incoming call is answered in Audio or Video mode.
  • Default Dial Mode: controls whether an outgoing call is placed in Audio or Video mode.

Out of the box, both fields default to Video (value 2). Left uncorrected, this causes the phone to attempt video negotiation on every call, which can result in unexpected camera activation, extra bandwidth usage, and call setup issues on audio-only trunks or endpoints.

Cause

This is a factory default on Fanvil's video-capable hardware, not a Hosted PBX platform setting. It is exposed via the phone's local web GUI, which is disabled by default for phones registered to the Hosted PBX SIP cluster, so most clients will not see or change this setting unless it is corrected at the provisioning or portal level.

Value reference: 1 = Audio, 2 = Video. The factory default for both DefaultAnsMode and DefaultDialMode is 2 (Video); the correction below sets both to 1 (Audio).

Resolution - Clients Using the Hosted PBX Provisioning Server

For phones that pull their configuration from the Hosted PBX's provisioning server, the following configuration overrides are already applied to correct the default to Audio:

call.port.1.DefaultAnsMode="1"

call.port.1.DefaultDialMode="1"

No manual action is required for these clients; the override is automatically pushed the next time the phone checks in with the provisioning server. If a phone is still showing Video mode after a provisioning re-sync, confirm the phone model is on a supported firmware version and trigger a manual reboot/re-provision of the device.

Resolution - Clients NOT Using the Hosted PBX Provisioning Server

Phones that are not pulling configuration from the UnitedCloud provisioning server will not automatically receive the override above. These clients have two options:

Option A: Adjust Manually on the Phone's Web GUI

  1. Log in to the phone's local web interface. This is typically found under Phone Settings, or by browsing directly to the phone's IP address.
  2. Navigate to Phone SettingsFeatures.
  3. Under Basic Settings, locate Default Ans Mode and Default Dial Mode.
  4. Change both dropdowns from Video to Audio.
  5. Click Apply.

Note: the phone's local web GUI is disabled by default for devices registered to the UnitedCloud SIP cluster. If the GUI is inaccessible, use Option B below instead or contact UnitedCloud support to have the GUI temporarily enabled.

Option B: Add the Overrides in the UnitedCloud Portal

  1. In the Hosted PBX client portal, open the affected extension and go to Advanced Phone Settings.
  2. Locate the Overrides field.
  3. Add the following two lines exactly as shown:

call.port.1.DefaultAnsMode="1"

call.port.1.DefaultDialMode="1"

  1. Click Done, then Save/Apply the extension changes so the phone picks up the new configuration on its next check-in or reboot.
